Technology Awards in London

Technology awards are an opportunity to recognise achievements my London-based and other UK tech companies. There are several award events held in London throughout the year that not only celebrate success but also help raise the profile of companies, innovators and the tech community. The following lists some of the most innovative and respected technology awards held in the capital.

UK Tech Awards

Launched in 2000, the UK Tech Awards began as the techMARK awards for quoted tech companies. Now, the awards have evolved to include companies that are not publicly quoted 'techMARK' companies on the London Stock Exchange and are open to AIM tech companies as well as innovative private tech companies. An awards dinner is held annually in London and attracts more than 800 people including entrepreneurs, business leaders, consultants and others.

Awards categories include Tech Fund Manager of the Year, Tech Innovation of the Year, Tech Journalist of the Year, Tech Growth Business of the Year, Tech Personality of the Year, Tech Achievement of the Year, Tech Company of the Year and International Tech Star of the Year. Awards also recognise the best private equity deal and use of technology in the digital economy. Awards have been sponsored by some of the leading names in the UK economy, including Barclays, PwC, ECI Partners, Jefferies, finnCap, Luther Pendragon and Megbuyte.

The awards are open to companies that are headquartered in the UK or Ireland or have substantial management, control and ownership based in the UK or Ireland. To be eligible, a company's business growth and success must depend on or be attributed to the development of technology. They must have developed their own IP and must be able to demonstrate significant innovation in technology or its application. Eligible companies could be involved in a range of sectors including biotech, cleantech, communications, electronic and digital technologies, and medtech.

Digital Masters Awards

The Digital Masters Awards celebrate executives that are leading the UK's digital revolution. The event showcases individuals that are responsible for successfully delivering innovation and economic growth through digital leadership. By invitation only, the event brings together over 300 senior digital executives during London Technology Week. From large corporations to start-ups, the Digital Masters Awards recognises achievements and leadership in a broad range of digital technology companies.

The awards recognise the best in general management, product, marketing, technology, commercial management, finance, people, and business intelligence and data. The Digital Masters Awards also includes an award for Chief Executive of the Year and the Google Award for Women in Digital. The event is sponsored by leading innovators in the digital world including founding partners Google, eBay, Eventbrite, Hoxton Ventures, White Star Capital, Experian Marketing Services, Criteo, the Guardian and Diffusion. The Digital Masters Awards are organised by the Up Group, a specialist digital executive search firm founded in 2007.

The Europas

The Europas Awards is a relaxed evening reception with food and drinks, as well as a showcase of technology achievements. The awards are held at Old Billingsgate close to the River Thames. First organised in 2009, the event attracts some 800 tech entrepreneurs and leaders in the tech start-up industry from across Europe. The awards are organised alongside the Gathering Unconference, a non-traditional conference with four highlight panels and small group discussions.

Categories include awards for best start-ups in entertainment or media, e-commerce, education, health, advertising marketing, gaming or social games, travel/transport, and security/privacy. Awards also recognise mobile, FinTech, hardware, sharing or crowd sourcing economy, and other start-ups. Other awards recognise the best start-up accelerator or incubator, the best angel or seed investor, greatest tech influence on society, best venture capital investor, best start-up founder or co-founders, and the coolest technology innovation. The event also names individuals to the Europeas Hall of Fame, which includes individuals working in or with tech start-ups over a long period of time.

UK Mobile & App Design Awards

The UK Mobile & App Design Awards is an initiative of design100, an Australian-based platform of award programmes focused on promoting the value of design. Part of London Technology Week, the awards celebrate individuals who commission design and those who create. The event is open to designers, design companies, commissioners of design or students. Awards recognise art and creative directors, illustrators, graphic designers, brand and product managers, and others.

The awards recognise achievement in mobile innovation, business-to-business, entertainment, lifestyle, health and well-being, information, and financing, business and mCommerce apps. Awards are also handed out for best API, platform, mobile or app start-up, connective device and wearable technology, mobile expanded service or application, new service or application, and audience migration to mobile technology. design100 also organises similar events in Australia and the United States, including the US Mobile App Design Awards and the Australian Mobile App Design Awards.
